Addo elephant park

Addo elephant park

Off the N10 near Port Elizabeth. Eastern Cape

Access

Very easy access on main national roads. A 4x 4 is not required. Roads within the park are generally good. It is always useful to have a vehicle with higher road clearance however

Accommodation

This is a Sanparks reserve. A variety of accommodation is available – camping / chalets.

We stayed at Nyathi camp which is in a private concession area. A beautifully situated camp with magnificent views. Is off the grid with no cell phone reception. Accommodation is very comfortable and is self-catering.

There is a restaurant at the main camp – although if staying at Nyathi you will not be able to use this restaurant at night due to the strict gate times

Booking

Sanparks website

Pensioners discounts are available at certain camps and during certain periods Note you can only use the call Centre to obtain these – not the online reservations

Photo opportunities

Elephants are the signature of this park – however we hardly saw any sadly. We looked forward to seeing the tusk-less elephants this park has too but it did not materialize. Flowers and insect opportunities exist

Plenty of birdlife – with an underground hide close to reception

Highlights

Birds. Field flowers and lichen which is incredibly beautiful to photograph

In general – apart from the stunning accommodation – we were disappointed with this park from a wildlife (mammals) photographic opportunity aspect
